My first blog!! It was going to be a New Year’s resolution but I’ve jumped the gun and got in early. I live in Devon (in England for any overseas readers) in a village just outside Exeter so lots of lovely landscape around.
In starting a blog I decided that it needed to be in conjunction with being far more prolific with my picture taking. I think this is a hangover from my medium format film days when I only had 12 negatives on a roll. The other restraint that I know many of us are guilty of, is not having my camera with me on nearly enough occasions.
So, the solution to this is to get a compact camera that comes with me everywhere. I have already done a lot of research and the frontrunner is the Fujifilm X10 subject to them fixing the white orb problem. If you don’t know about this phenomenon, then check out the Fujifilm forum on dpreview.com The camera is not too large, great F2.0 to 2.8, 28mm to 112mm manual zoom lens and bright viewfinder. The Nikon P7100 is not too far behind but the viewfinder is smaller. Thought of the Olympus XZ-1 but it becomes a bit bulky with the VF-2 viewfinder attached. Wondering if it is worth waiting for the Canon successor to the much praised G12 which should appear before too long.
If anyone has used these cameras or has any better suggestions please let me know but I don’t want a mirrorless camera.
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year and lots of good shooting!
